Target

What is a Target?

The target is the intended audience for a marketing action. It is defined by relevant needs and characteristics, avoiding treating all potential buyers as an identical group.

Therefore, for this group of people, all marketing efforts should focus on attracting them to our brand. This is anyone who might be interested in what we sell.

It is a perfect construct developed through market research. Suppose a brewer wants to launch a new non-alcoholic beverage. After analyzing the market and consumer tastes, the company decided that the product’s target audience would be women aged 30 to 50.

Defining the target, also known as the target market, is very important for optimizing resources. If a company wanted to introduce a new type of candy, it would most likely try to attract children’s attention, since they were the traditional target for this type of product.
