What are Plugins?
Plugins are extensions that add features to a platform. Using them requires reviewing compatibility, maintenance, and permissions, and avoiding installing components without a defined need.
Generally, they modify the program by adding an extra piece of code. This code can be developed by the respective software team or as an independent development, and it depends on the tools being used.
In addition to add-ons, you may find them under other names such as extension, module, add-on, or even widget, depending on the software you want to update, which is why it’s important to consider these aspects.
They are used in browsers, for example, when installing an extension to get translations, correct typos, take screenshots, or hide ads, among many other actions.
Or in managers like WordPress, where there are plugins to add buttons, customize a specific section, modify the structure, add security features, and a lot of different applications.
